Do Vinyl Windows Mold?

Is there some sort of weird substance growing on your windows? If you have wood windows or dirty window sills, the answer could be mold.

Mold needs an organic food source to grow. If anything like wood, cardboard or paper is involved mold can grow easily. So if your wood windows are coming into contact with moisture for an extended period of time, then mold can grow.

Vinyl windows are not an organic food source for mold, so mold cannot grow on vinyl windows easily. That doesn’t mean it can’t grow if wood is present around the frame, it just means it won’t grow on the frame.

Although it is very uncommon to have mold grow on a vinyl window it still is possible in rare situations. If tiny particles of organic debris are found on or around the surfaces of a vinyl window in a moisture-rich area, homeowners can potentially find mold growth. This debris can be anything from microscopic fragments of pollen, to animal dander, to insect pieces, to normal household dust. That’s why it’s important to just wipe down windows from time to time in the remote chance that mold could grow.

Newer vinyl windows will likely not even have this problem because they are moisture resistant. They don’t get pesky condensation stuck between the glass which mold can feed off of, and they keep any outside rain outside. Lastly, vinyl window panes dry quickly when exposed to sun so mold doesn’t even have the chance to grow.

It’s even more unlikely mold will grow on the inside of home windows, especially if you have AC, cool conditions, and fans blowing to prevent moisture buildup. In any case, you won’t have to worry about mold growth with vinyl windows.

In addition to  standard mold resistance there is a unique property to our Conservation Texas Vinyl windows that is extremely appealing to homeowners who want to clean less and still maintain a clear look. This is our revolutionary Easy Clean Glass Coating.

What is Neat Glass Coating? This specialized coating is placed on all of our windows and prevents dirt and debris from sticking to the glass. It works with the sun’s UV rays to decompose organic matter on the glass. It prevents water spots and other build up that might hinder views. What this means for you is less cleaning over the life of your window. Test results from an outside lab show 40% less dust on the Easy Clean Glass surfaces compared to uncoated glass, keeping the window cleaner longer. This also means that it is even less likely to develop any type of mold.

Easy Clean Glass Coating which sits on all Conservation Texas Windows gives the glass a basically “frictionless” quality. Beads of rain or water slide off the windows easily, and keep moisture from sticking. This gives you a cleaner window overall, and again keeps mold from forming as well.
