Winter cold fronts can move through North Texas, often bringing sharp temperature changes, strong winds, and overnight drops that stress home exteriors. While these fronts may only last a few days, they often reveal window problems homeowners didn’t realize they had.
At Conservation Construction of Dallas, we hear from homeowners who notice the same pattern every winter. Each cold front brings uneven room temperatures, drafty windows, and heating systems that seem to work harder without improving comfort.Â
In many cases, the issue isn’t the heater at all. It’s your windows.
Homes built for Texas summers can lose heat quickly during sudden cold snaps, especially through older glass and worn seals.Â
Energy-efficient windows help tighten up those weak points and restore comfort when cold fronts move through.
Cold fronts are tough on windows because they combine rapid temperature change with wind pressure. That combination exposes weak points that may go unnoticed during mild weather.
Here’s the science in plain terms. Heat naturally moves toward cold. When outdoor temperatures drop quickly, window glass and frames cool fast. If seals around the window are worn or the glass is outdated, heat escapes more easily through those surfaces. Wind makes it worse by pushing cold air against the home, forcing it through even tiny gaps around frames and sashes.
According to the University of Massachusetts Amherst Building and Construction Technology program, “Air leakage siphons about half of an average home’s heating and cooling energy to the outdoors,” much of it occurring through and around windows.
When we talk about window performance, we are really talking about two things homeowners feel every day:
If performance is slipping, you feel it as cold rooms near windows, drafts that come and go with the wind, and heating systems that work harder without improving comfort.Â
Cold fronts do not create these problems. They simply make existing weaknesses easier to notice.
Instead of one obvious failure, problems tend to build gradually.Â
Common signs include:
If these symptoms recur each winter, windows are often the culprit.
Each of these points leads back to either heat escaping through the glass or air slipping around the frame. Cold fronts amplify both problems at once.
The best time to diagnose in North Texas is during the wind, not after the front passes. On a windy day, stand near the window and feel along the side rails and sill. If you notice moving air, listen to it. Whistling or curtains shifting slightly can point to leakage at the frame.
Then do a room comparison. If one room cools down much faster than the rest of the home after the heat shuts off, windows are often part of the reason, especially on the wind-facing side of the house.
Also, check the operation. If the window feels tight at the bottom but loose at the top, or locks no longer line up cleanly, that often points to a frame shift affecting how tightly the window closes.
Seal failure means the panes no longer insulate together, reducing the window’s ability to block heat loss.
Small fixes can make sense when the problem is limited, and the window itself is still in good shape. For example:
Window replacement becomes the more practical option when issues are ongoing or show up in multiple rooms, such as:
At that stage, upgrading to energy-efficient windows in Dallas becomes less about fixing a single problem and more about improving overall comfort during frequent cold fronts and temperature swings.
Because North Texas can see frequent temperature swings and strong winds, installation quality matters as much as the window itself. Proper fit, consistent sealing, and correct alignment help windows handle pressure changes without leaking air.
A rushed installation can leave small gaps that cause drafts, rattling, and comfort issues that never fully go away. Even a well-made window can underperform if it is not installed correctly.
A quality installation verifies the opening, corrects alignment issues, and checks operation before the crew leaves, so the window seals the way it should.
A longer heating cycle means your heater is failing.
During cold fronts in North Texas, homeowners often notice cold rooms near windows or uneven room temperatures. That does not automatically mean the furnace is broken. Often, the system is working properly but losing ground to window drafts, drafty windows, or minor window seal failure that allows heat to escape.
If a window looks closed, it must be sealed.
Windows letting cold air in are not always obvious. Air leaks around window frames, worn weatherstripping, or poor window installation can allow cold air to enter near windows, even when the locks appear tight. Small gaps you cannot see can still create noticeable discomfort during strong winter winds.
Cold glass always means there is a draft.
Not every cold surface means active airflow. Older glass can feel cold without true air movement, still pulling heat from the room and making it uncomfortable. However, visible fog between window panes is a strong sign of window seal failure, which reduces insulation performance even if you do not feel direct air leaks.
If the same rooms feel uncomfortable after every cold front, or if drafts and condensation keep returning, a professional evaluation can help clarify what is really happening.
A window assessment looks at glass condition, sealing, alignment, and installation factors to determine whether simple fixes will help or if replacement is the more practical solution.
Homeowners can schedule a consultation with Conservation Construction of Dallas to have their windows evaluated and receive recommendations for energy-efficient windows to improve comfort and performance during North Texas cold fronts.
Have you ever wondered what Double Hung Windows are? In today’s article we’ll be covering all things around Double Hung Windows. These windows are quite extraordinary, and if you read you’ll find some interesting facts you may not have known before about these extraordinary windows.Â
A double-hung window, also commonly referred to as a double-sash window, is a type of window that has two operable sashes that slide up and down. There are two main operable parts of a double-hung window — the top sash and the bottom sash. They are both able to open to provide ventilation.
Possibly the greatest benefit that double hung windows bring is great ventilation capabilities, and the ability to control airflow. Because the windows both open on the bottom and top you can decide how much airflow you want out of your window. You can vent air out the bottom while allowing air in at the top. This alone gives people more options than a single hung window could provide.Â
Because both windows move up and down and can be lifted inward, you never need to climb on a ladder to clean your windows again. This makes maintaining the beauty of the windows easy. You can literally spray and wipe the window from the inside of your home. This makes cleaning the windows in your home vastly easier to clean than windows of the past.Â
Just because these double hung windows have more functionality does not mean they cannot be customized. Our Texas windows can be ordered in multiple colors. If you need black windows we can provide that for you! You can look at a list of our colors to see which will match your home best.Â
Double Hung Windows are just as energy efficient as any other window on the market today. When you go with a Conservation Texas Window you get supreme energy efficiency because of the way we engineered the frame and glass. Each component was made to stand up to extremely harsh weather. This means come rain or shine your home will remain a more stable temperature all year long giving you a reduction in your energy costs by up to 40%.Â
Our windows are extremely durable as well, able to stand up to everyday use and extreme weather. Your windows should function the same everyday as the day we installed them.Â
These windows are easy to slide and operate. If you need to lift them out to clean, you simply push two buttons on the top of the frame and they lift out easily. You won’t find an easier to operate window on the market today.Â
Double Hung Windows are a great option for window replacement. They are easy to operate, durable, energy efficient, easy to maintain, allow for big breezes, and come in a variety of colors. In the past I have stated what a chore it truly is to clean your windows. That's why most people only clean them, on average, once per year. With new windows like the ones we sell at conservation construction you'll need to clean them even less often than would typically be the norm. That's all thanks to our revolutionary technology called Easy Clean Coating. This technology sits on the glass and puts those UV rays to good use. In addition, unlike old windows, our frames are streamlined which means there's not hundreds of tiny moving pieces that need to get cleaned behind. Instead, the frames are one big piece so you can simply wipe them with paper towels and Windex.Â

Are there things you should prep in your home before you get new windows installed?
Yes.
Is it easy to prepare your home for window installation?
Yes.
Preparing for home window installation is simple and easy. Here at Conservation Construction we love being prepared, so we’re here to give you some quick tips and tricks on how to prepare for your home window installation project. Follow these few simple steps, and your home window project will be as smooth as possible on installation day.
So, the first rule of thumb is to take down all pictures that are close to the specific windows being replaced. In general, pictures can shift when installers are using tools to get the old windows out. What you don’t want is your priceless family portrait knocked off the wall during installation! Take any pictures off of the walls and place them in a safe spot while the construction is underway. Pictures hanging toward the interior of your house are typically fine where they are.
The same goes for any knick-knacks. Glass objects, delicate pieces--anything that is fragile or that you’re worried about breaking-- should be placed in a location that’s away from the construction area. It’s just a good idea all around. You don’t want your precious objects breaking, and neither do we!
Curtains and drapes hanging in your home must come down before installation too. Installation crews need to be able to get into the nooks and crannies of the window frames. Taking the blinds down will ensure that they can remove and replace the windows with ease.Â
Please make sure to move all furniture and area rugs that are close to the windows, or in the path between the door and the windows. It’s a good idea to leave about a three-foot path between furniture and the walls; so that the crews have the space to move around safely while the installation is in process.
At Conservation Construction our installation crews put down coverings to ensure the least amount of dust and debris get inside your home. They are tidy, clean, and make sure to vacuum up after each installed window. This really takes the hassle out of window installation because they basically leave your home cleaner than when they arrived.
There is no need to stress about the outside of your house either. Even if you have trees or bushes in front of a window, the crews can work around that. They have all kinds of tricks up their sleeve to get the windows installed. No window is too hard for our crews to remove and replace.
Remember these simple steps:

Do new windows come with screens included? Let’s screen out the mystery behind this question in today’s article.
This may seem like a small question, but it is more critical to ask this question than one might think. New windows will be in your home for a very long time, and it’s these small details that make all the difference in the longevity of the windows. You’d think, “Sure, all window companies include screens with their windows,” but this isn’t always the case.
Window screens are important. They are important to maintain airflow while preventing insects from getting into the home. They also limit the amount of dust, dirt and other particles that might fly onto the windows from getting inside. Window screens have also been shown to reduce heat transfer. Furthermore, when screens work properly, they help deflect rainwater as well.
As a rule of thumb, you should always ask if your windows come with screens. At Conservation Construction of Dallas, screens come standard with all of our operational windows.
Conservation Window Screens are not just average screens - they are extraordinary screens . . .
What makes them so unique? Conservation Construction Window Screens come with a new ultra-fiber technology which is less visible to the human eye than standard screen material. The screen material is so fine that it almost seems to disappear into the background. This fiber size makes for an even tighter weave. These smaller openings throughout the screen allow for more natural brightness to penetrate the home. An added perk to Conservation Construction Window Screens is that it’s hard for any bugs to get through them. So, let in all the breezes without all the bugs.
Conservation Construction screens are made specifically for each Texas window and fit perfectly within their frames. This supreme custom fit provides ultimate protection because there are no gaps between our frame and window. This also gives the frames better structural integrity when winds come blowing.
Easy To Remove Screens
Conservation Construction of Dallas Screens are easy to access and remove. If you need to clean them you can simply lift them out of the window, clean them, and put them back with little effort. It’s these small details that make for ease of use. With little to no maintenance required, Conservation Construction Texas windows are a great option for homeowners who want to maintain cleanliness with the least amount of effort.Â
How could Conservation Screens get any better? They are protecting the best windows on the market today. Every detail of our Texas Windows, down to the corners of the frame, was engineered for longevity and energy efficiency. All our windows include standard:
It’s all of these things working together that make Conservation Constructions' Texas Windows extremely energy efficient and durable.
So, remember: it’s best to screen out the window companies that don’t include screens with their installed windows. As for Windows from Conservation Construction Of Texas, they always come with screens included. A free quote is waiting for you on our website. Think of it this way . . . If you gave a high end guitar to the average person, the chances are they wouldn’t know how to play it. That guitar deserves to be played by someone who really understands the instrument. It’s the same with window installation. You could have the best windows in the world, but if they are not installed properly you would not get all the benefits out of the window. Conservation Construction: Expert Window Installation
I have seen first hand just how hard out installation crews work. I was there the entire time filming them when they removed and replaced my windows. Let me tell you, their attention to detail and dedication to getting the windows installed right is astounding. Truth be told, I’ve been to many installations and whether it be Siding, Windows, or Door installation they apply the same amount of dedication and hard work to every project I’ve seen.Â
This attention to detail ensures your home will get the best installation done right the first time. Our Conservation windows were installed in my own home, and let me tell you they were installed correctly the first time. I have had no hassle, full functioning windows for nearly a year and a half now and they are just as good as the day I installed them.Â
Finally, I know the windows were installed properly because our energy bills have dropped by 50$ a month. This is also due to the extreme thermal control these windows provide too. Conservation Construction: Expert Window Installation
Our windows have Low-E Glass Coating which insures high visibility and solar control all in one. Additionally, our windows include foam filled sides and vinyl frames to ensure ultimate protection against air infiltration. The best part is that all your windows are measured to perfection by your installer erektile-apotheke.de. Once they are manufactured they are picked up by your installer and cut to fit to ensure the tightest seal possible. How cool is that?
Included in all these other amazing features is our exclusive Easy Glass coating. This coating sits on the glass and uses the power of the sun to decompose organic matter from the glass. This means less cleaning for you over the life of the windows. Finally, we also include a custom bottom drain at the bottom of the window to make sure that window doesn’t sit/absorb water into the frame causing damage. This frame sheets the rain away to ensure better protection from rain.Â
In conclusion remember, you only get the best energy efficiency out of new windows if they’re installed properly. Expert installers aren’t hard to find when you go with a Window from Conservation Construction of Dallas. Our team of installers has decades of experience to get the job done right the first time. A lot of us wouldn’t think of windows as being the focal point in major television productions, but if you stop and think about it, Windows, or lack thereof, really set the scene in movies and television shows. So today, we’re going to dive into some of the most iconic windows throughout television history. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and get into some of them now . . .Â
I thought I’d start with this beautiful set.
This coffee shop has epic picture windows which are a huge feature at the front of the building. We love picture windows here at Conservation Construction of Dallas and they really do a lot for the set to give lighting and openness to this space.Â
If the first set was obvious to which television show we were looking at, this next picture is an even bigger giveaway. Â
Yes, it's true, I added the Seinfeld set because, to this day, I love the show and cannot get enough of the reruns. Even though Jerry didn't have that many windows shown in his apartment, they were used several times in iconic scenes of the television series. We're certain they are a simple set of double hung sliding windows.
We're known for our supreme Double Hung replacement windows here at Conservation Construction of Dallas too. Our double hung windows are durable and energy efficient (shameless plug). A fun fact about Seinfeld is that Larry David made sure that the cast and crew were aware of his “no hugging, no learning” motto for the show. This meant that they should avoid any sort of sentimentality or situations that would force the characters to change or grow. “A lot of people don't understand that Seinfeld is a dark show,” David said.Â
This next show happened to be my favorite comedy show over the past decade. In fact, when this show retired last year it was the number one sitcom on television for the past 8 years straight.
It's true that us nerds and non-nerds alike loved the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory. Heck, I even bought every season on DVD/Blue Ray. The windows in this apartment are also plots for several episodes of the show. Take season two for instance when Penny throws an Ipod outside of the window at a boyfriend. There is also the legendary episode in season five when Sheldon finds a Blue Jay outside the window. Later in the episode the bird flies inside and starts to freak Sheldon out. The windows in this apartment look like windows with grids. Here at Conservation Construction we're able to match any existing grids in windows. We can even add grids to new windows if that's the look you are going for. Fun fact about the Big Bang Theory is that Jim Parsons thought he was auditioning for a game show at first.Â
This next set might be a bit trickier (picture featured to the right).
This building was shown in the opening credits of the television show Three's Company. Shockingly, the building is not an apartment complex in real life but a single-family home that was built in 1928. The residence, which is still very recognizable today, was shown only briefly during the opening credits of the show’s first, second, and third seasons. You can watch that opening here. It looks like this building itself has some very unique one of a kind windows. You could say that specialty windows were our specialty at Conservation Construction of Dallas.
We're able to measure and recreate extravagant windows. Above is a picture of a job we completed this past summer. All these black windows were custom built, measured, and installed to perfection. If you're looking for special windows we've got you covered (yet another shameless plug).Â

Although a little more warn down by today's standards, this set is still standing today.
Can anyone guess where this house is from? It's from another very popular 1950's sitcom called Leave It To Beaver. I'm guessing some of you may have heard of this show before. The house was not made for the Leave It To Beaver Show, instead, it was built for the movie "Desperate Hours" (1955). Soon after the show aired it became known as the "Cleaver House." After the shows ending in 1963 it was used for another show Marcus Welby MD from 1969-1976. This house features some of the most typical windows you could find in people's home's today, like regular double hung windows. These windows look pretty old however, and we'd be able to help this old house out with new windows! Our windows have lifetime warranties too, so if it needed a repair in the future we'd have them covered.
We hope you've learned a little history about television shows from this article. We also hope you've learned a little about Conservation Construction of Dallas replacement windows. I truly hope you enjoyed reading this article as much as I enjoyed writing and researching it. We should all remember the hilarious scene in Happy Gilmore where Adam Sandler tries his hands in golf. He sets a golf ball on the front yard, and then proceed to drive it across the street into his neighbor's window. When the neighbor sees, he comes outside and demands payment for the broken window. That’s when Adam shoots another golf ball hits the man’s body with the next ball.Â
Again, this scene is funny in the movies, but what if this has happened to you in real life? (not getting hit by a golf ball, but the golf ball through your window scenario). As most homeowners know, damage to any kind of window in your home is not an easy or cheap repair. We’re sure those of you who live on a golf course have experienced this kind of damage too. If you have old windows, you don’t want to just replace the glass. If you do just replace the glass there’s still problems with functionality.    Â
Hopefully, the person who is responsible for the damage will offer to pay for the window fix. What about if you live next to a golf club and it’s unclear who will pay for the damage? If you’ve had this kind of window related damage and are sick of it, there is a solution. It’s not just living with the fact you have owners assumed risk when you live next to a country club, either.Â
First, you could move. We’re just kidding with this option. Most people won’t move for problems such as this. Second, you could complain to the golf course or HOA or wherever the problem is coming from. Third you could get our Conservation Windows which have lifetime warranties. We’re not saying you shouldn’t do the first two either to avoid the hassle of replacing windows too erektile-apotheke.de. I mean who wants to deal with that kind of damage all the time?Â
We work with you to get the windows repaired as soon as possible. That means if your windows experience any damage in any way shape or form, we’ve got you covered.Â
In addition to our phenomenal warranties, our Conservation windows also provide your home with insulation, functionality and weather resistance. You’ll get lower energy bills and more stable room temperatures all year round. Our windows use 4 layer patented formula for Low-E Glass. This unique formula gives you optimal sunlight and UV protection. Unlike other shaded/tinted windows which block out the sun and keep your home dark, our windows allow for tons of light while keeping the damaging rays outside. This way your house will stay at a stable temperature and your furniture won’t get bleached either.Â
In conclusion there is a solution to the errant golf balls flying into and smashing windows in your home. Solutions to this particular problem include;
1.complaining
2. getting warrantied windows to ensure if this happens again at least the windows will get replaced under warranty
3. moving,Â
4. hold the person responsible accountable for their actions and make then pay for the repair.
Hopefully, this problem will be a part of your past and not part of your future any longer. Please comment below on what kind of damage you’ve experienced over the years, and let us know what you thought of the article. Also, visit our review page to see what our customer's are saying about their new windows.
